Results

Results shows what a published post drove: which listings people opened from it, and which enquiries came from it.

Where to see it

  • In the Posts tab, a published post shows a line under its title such as "12 visits to listings, 2 leads". Click it to open the details.
  • In the review window of a published post, open the Results tab.

The tab shows:

Section What it shows
Visits to listings How many times visitors opened one of the post's listings after clicking a link in the post
Listings people opened Each listing and its visits, most visited first
Leads The enquiries that came from the post: date, name, the listing it was about and the lead's status. Needs permission to view leads

How it works

When tracking is on, the links in your post (the listing cards, the scroller, the Browse all and Contact us buttons and links you add yourself) carry a campaign tag: utm_source=dms-ai-blog and utm_campaign=post- followed by the post number.

  • Visits. A listing page that is opened with that tag reports one visit to the post. A small script does this in the visitor's browser, so it works with caching plugins. A visitor is counted once every 30 minutes for each listing, so refreshing the page does not add up.
  • Leads. Your site already remembers the campaign tag a visitor arrived with for 30 days and saves it with every enquiry. A form sent within 30 days of arriving from a post is counted for that post, even if it is sent from a different page.

Only the listings a post is about are counted, so a visit cannot be added to a listing the post does not mention.

Switching it off

Tracking is on by default. Turn it off with Count visits and leads that come from a post in the Settings tab, and links in posts are left as they are.

Google Analytics

The tag is a standard campaign tag, so Google Analytics shows these visitors under the source dms-ai-blog and the medium blog. That makes the traffic from your posts easy to find. It also means a visitor who clicks from the post to another page of your site is counted under that source for that visit. If you do not want that, switch tracking off.

Things to know

  • Counts start when tracking was switched on. Posts published before then show no history.
  • Search engine robots that run JavaScript can add a visit. Leads are not affected.
  • The count of visits is kept with the post. It is not part of the DMS listing views.
  • Privacy: a salted hash of the visitor's IP address is kept for 30 minutes to avoid counting a refresh twice, and the campaign tag is kept in the visitor's cookie for 30 days. A sentence for your privacy policy page is added to the suggested text in Settings > Privacy.
