Statuses

A status describes where a listing is in its lifecycle - Available, Sale Pending, Sold. The status controls how a listing is treated and displayed to shoppers.

Statuses are managed per inventory type at [Your Type] > Statuses.

Default statuses

When you create an inventory type, DMS sets up a default set of statuses for it, including:

  • Available - live and for sale.
  • Sale Pending - a deal is in progress.
  • Sold - no longer available.

These cover most dealers out of the box. You can add your own on top (for example "Reserved", "Coming Soon", "In Service").

Setting a listing's status

Open any listing and set its status while editing. Changing a listing to Sold, for example, can change how - or whether - it appears in search results, depending on your configuration.

Managing statuses

At [Your Type] > Statuses you can add, rename, and organize the statuses available for that type. Statuses are per type, so Boats and Trailers can have different lifecycles if needed.

Warning

The default statuses are core to how DMS works - build on them rather than expecting to remove the essentials.

Statuses and badges

Status and badges work well together: use a status to control availability and display, and a badge to visually flag it (a "Sold" badge on the card, for example). Badges can even be applied automatically by rules based on conditions.

Next: add visual labels in Badges, or see how status affects a listing in Managing Listings.
