Troubleshooting¶
The fastest diagnostic is Google's Rich Results Test — paste a listing URL and it reports exactly what was detected, with warnings for missing recommended fields.
A field is missing from the structured data¶
Almost always an unmapped category. Check Listing Type → Settings → SEO Schema and confirm the setting for that field points at the right category.
Values are omitted rather than guessed, so an unmapped Year Category means no year in the output — not an error anywhere.
Also check the listing itself has a value for that category. A mapped category with nothing on the listing produces nothing.
Google reports missing recommended fields¶
Warnings differ from errors. Google recommends more properties than most dealers store, and a warning doesn't stop rich results appearing.
Prioritise year, make, model, VIN, price, and availability — the fields buyers actually search on. For anything beyond what the settings cover, add it with the vehicle schema filter.
Everything shows as used, including certified vehicles¶
Structured data only recognises new and used. A listing is advertised as new only when its condition term exactly matches New Condition Value; everything else, including Certified Pre-Owned and Demo, is used.
If genuinely new vehicles are showing as used, the mismatch is usually exact-match: check capitalisation, spacing, and that you entered the term as written, not a variation of it.
Interior and exterior colours appear swapped¶
Versions before 1.3.1 wrote each colour category to the other's schema property. Updating corrects it with no settings change.
If you worked around it by swapping the two settings, swap them back after updating — otherwise the fix inverts them again.
Price is missing¶
- Check the listing has a price. Listings priced at zero omit the price rather than advertising free.
- Check Currency Code is set on the listing type. Without it a crawler can't interpret the number.
- Check for a pricing extension. If prices are hidden from signed-out visitors, structured data is generated server-side and still carries the real value — confirm that's what you intend before publishing.
Availability is wrong¶
Availability is derived, not configured. Sold and sale-pending listings are marked out of stock; everything else is in stock.
If a vehicle shows the wrong availability, its DMS status is the thing to correct.
A location isn't attached to listings¶
Two steps are needed, and the second is easy to miss:
- Location Category set on the listing type.
- Each term in that category assigned to a location, via the Location Schema tab that appears when editing the term.
That tab only appears once the category has been nominated on the listing type — so if you don't see it, do step one first and reload.
Also confirm the term's assigned location still exists in Dealer.ms → Settings → SEO Schema; locations are matched by business name, so renaming one orphans the terms pointing at it.
Two sets of structured data on the page¶
Another SEO plugin is likely emitting its own Organization or LocalBusiness block. Duplicates can confuse crawlers about which describes the business.
Either disable that plugin's schema output, or suppress this extension's — see Suppressing a block.
Changes don't appear in search results¶
Structured data is read when a page is next crawled, and rich results appear at Google's discretion — neither is immediate. Use the Rich Results Test to confirm the markup is correct, then request indexing in Search Console.
Correct markup is a prerequisite for rich results, not a guarantee of them.
Nothing is output at all¶
- Confirm the extension is active in DMS → Extensions and that your license is Starter or higher.
- View the page source and search for
application/ld+json. The blocks sit near the top of the<head>. - If your site caches pages, purge the cache after changing settings.
