Troubleshooting¶
No results appear, or the dropdown stays in its loading state¶
Work through these in order:
- Check Search Type and Search Result Template are both set. The search needs a listing type and an SRI template; with either missing, the request can't complete.
- Confirm the SRI template belongs to the listing type being searched. A Cars element pointed at a Boats template has nothing valid to render.
- Search for something you know exists — a stock number or an exact model name. The dropdown searches that listing type only, so a Cars input will never surface a Boats listing.
- Check the browser console. Errors from the request are logged there, which quickly separates a server-side failure from an empty result set.
"Nonce not set or invalid, please refresh and try again."¶
The security token attached to the input expired or was cached. This usually means the page holding the input was served from a page cache after the token had gone stale.
- Reload the page — this fixes it for the visitor.
- If it recurs, exclude pages containing the search input from full-page caching, or reduce the cache lifetime so pages are regenerated before tokens expire.
Results appear but are unstyled or look wrong¶
The SRI template's builder CSS is delivered alongside the results. If styling is missing or stale:
- Re-save the SRI template so its CSS regenerates, then reload the page holding the input.
- Confirm the template renders correctly on its own in the builder preview first — the dropdown reproduces whatever the template produces.
- Remember the row is constrained to the input's width. A template designed at full page width will look cramped; see Designing the template.
The search feels slow to respond¶
There is a deliberate 500 ms pause after typing stops before the request fires, so a fast typist triggers one search rather than a dozen. The loading state appears immediately, so the input never looks unresponsive.
If results themselves are slow to come back, the query is the cost — searching a large inventory returns up to 100 matches and renders each one through your SRI template. A lighter template with fewer elements returns faster.
Typing in the input does nothing at all¶
- Confirm the extension is active in DMS → Extensions and that your license is Starter or higher.
- Check for JavaScript errors from other plugins on the page. The dropdown is driven by jQuery, and an earlier script error can stop it from binding.
- If you set a Text Type other than Text, the browser may be restricting what can be typed — a Number field silently rejects letters.
The typed value doesn't reach my inventory page¶
Set Input Name to keyword and make sure the input sits inside a form that submits to your SRP. The instant dropdown works regardless of the input name; passing the value onward is what depends on it.
