Troubleshooting

The button doesn't appear on a listing

The Favorites Button renders only when a single listing is in context. It outputs nothing at all if:

  • It was placed on a page or template with no listing (a homepage, a generic content page).
  • The template it lives on isn't being used by the listing type you're viewing.

Confirm the element sits on a VDP template or on the listing card used by search results, and that the extension is active in DMS → Extensions.

The trigger button never shows up

The floating trigger stays hidden until at least one listing has been saved — an empty trigger would be clutter on a first visit. Save a listing and it appears.

If it still doesn't:

  • Check Show Trigger Button On. With DMS Pages Only, the trigger is limited to VDP, SRP, and comparison pages. Switch to All Pages if you want it site-wide.
  • On a non-DMS page with DMS Pages Only selected, the sidebar assets are never loaded, so nothing can appear.

Saved listings disappeared

Favorites live in the visitor's browser (localStorage), not in your database or against a user account. They are lost when:

  • The visitor clears browsing data or site data.
  • The visitor switches device or browser — a phone and a laptop keep separate lists.
  • The visitor browses in private/incognito mode, where the list is discarded when the window closes.

This is expected behavior, not a fault. There is no server-side copy to restore.

The Compare button does nothing

  1. Check the Comparison Page URL in the Favorites tab. If it's empty, the Compare button is disabled by design.
  2. Check the target page contains the DMS comparison shortcode. The extension appends saved IDs as ?listings=1,2,3; the shortcode is what reads them. A page without it loads normally and silently ignores the selection.
  3. Check the URL is on your own site and doesn't already carry a conflicting listings parameter.

Colors from the settings aren't applied

Trigger and compare colors are delivered as CSS custom properties (--dms-fav-trigger-bg, --dms-fav-compare-bg) printed in the page head. If your theme or a plugin sets a hard background on those buttons with !important, it wins over the setting. Inspect the button and look for an overriding rule.

Also confirm you edited the right listing type — settings are per type, so a change made on Cars won't affect Boats.

The settings tab is missing

Confirm the extension is active in DMS → Extensions and that your license is Starter or higher. The tab appears under Listing Type → Settings → Favorites.
