CarGurus Deal Rating Badge¶
The CarGurus Deal Rating Badge extension enhances your vehicle listings by integrating with CarGurus to display deal rating badges. These badges indicate how competitively priced a vehicle is based on market data, providing potential buyers with instant insights into the quality of a deal. Ratings such as "Great Deal," "Good Deal," or "Fair Deal" help build trust, increase engagement, and encourage more informed purchasing decisions.
This documentation will guide you through the setup, configuration, and best practices for using the CarGurus Deal Rating Badge extension to maximize its benefits.
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| DMS version | 1.0.0 or newer |
| License | Starter or higher |
| CarGurus | Your inventory listed on CarGurus |
| Inventory data | A listing category holding each vehicle's VIN, and a price on every listing |
| Market | US English — CarGurus serves the badge from its en_US endpoint |
How it works¶
- You choose which listing category holds the VIN, plus a badge style and minimum rating, on the listing type.
- You place the CarGurus Deal Rating Badge element on a listing template.
- On the front end, DMS outputs that listing's VIN and price and loads CarGurus's badge script.
- CarGurus looks up the vehicle, compares your price against its market data, and draws the badge — or draws nothing, if the deal doesn't reach your minimum rating.
The rating is decided by CarGurus, not by DMS. You control which VIN and price are sent and how the badge looks; the verdict is theirs.
The badge renders in the visitor's browser
Everything after step 3 happens client-side, through CarGurus's own script. DMS never sees the rating, so it can't be filtered, sorted, or stored on your side — and a vehicle CarGurus doesn't recognize simply shows nothing.
Next steps¶
- Settings — VIN category, badge styles, minimum rating, height.
- Badge Element — placing the badge on your templates.
- Troubleshooting — badge missing, wrong size, some listings only.
