Badge Element

Adding the element is done by dragging or selecting the CarGurus Deal Rating Badge element into your page builder's content:

The CarGurus Deal Rating Badge element in the builder panel

The badge will be added and show up if it meets your minimum rating setting.

Where to place it

The element is available in the VDP and SRI (Search Result Item) categories.

  • On a VDP template, it sits with the vehicle's price and details, where a deal rating carries the most weight.
  • On an SRI template, it appears on each search result row. Effective for making well-priced stock stand out in a list — but mind the width, since banner styles are fixed-size. See Style.

A listing must be in context for the element to render, so it can't go on a general content page.

Badge Alignment

The element has a single setting: Badge Alignment — Left, Center, or Right. It sets the text alignment of the container the badge sits in.

Everything else about the badge's appearance — which style, what height, which ratings qualify — comes from the listing type's Settings, not from the element. Place the element twice on one template and both instances share those settings.

Shortcode

Registered with DMS as dms_cargurus_badge:

[dms_cargurus_badge alignment="center"]

What gets output

For a qualifying listing, DMS outputs a small container carrying the vehicle's VIN and price, then loads CarGurus's badge script. CarGurus replaces the container with the rendered badge.

Two conditions have to hold before DMS outputs anything at all:

  • A VIN Category is set on the listing type.
  • The listing has a non-zero price.

If either fails, no markup is produced — the element occupies no space on the page. A listing at $0, or with the price hidden, will never show a badge; CarGurus needs a price to rate against.
